Admissions for Online Engineering Degrees
Admission rules belong to each program, not to the university as a whole. This page explains what online engineering programs typically publish and links to the filters and guides that help you compare. Counts come from the 260 online master's programs verified in our directory.
Master's programs
- A bachelor's degree, usually in engineering or a closely related field (mathematics, physics, computer science), with a minimum GPA where the program states one.
- Mathematics prerequisites such as calculus and differential equations are common; applicants from other fields may need bridge or leveling courses.
- References, a statement of purpose and a résumé are common. Some programs ask for an ABET-accredited bachelor's or equivalent preparation.
- GRE policies are shown exactly as published. A program that does not mention the GRE is shown as not verified — never as “no GRE”.
- Online programs often admit for several terms a year — check the intake listed with each deadline.

PhD programs
Distance PhD programs usually expect a master's or strong bachelor's in engineering and a research match: some require a faculty advisor to agree before admission. Read the published residency, research-location, exam and defense requirements, and whether research can take place at an approved workplace. Funding is shown only as the program states it — campus assistantships are not assumed to apply to distance students.
Bachelor's programs
Some online engineering bachelor's programs admit first-year students; many are degree-completion programs that require prior college credit — often calculus, physics and chemistry, or an associate degree — before you start the online engineering courses. Each listing shows the published entry route and what must be completed elsewhere.

Before you apply
Check what the program requires in person (labs, visits, proctored exams), whether it can enroll residents of your state, and — if you plan to seek a PE license — what your state board expects from your degree. These matter as much as the admission checklist.
